The “Easy Way” version
Enjoy the adventure without the stress of a 16 km hike!
If you don't want to walk the whole of Samaria Gorge, this tour is perfect for you. With the Easy Way you still get the spectacular views of the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) and the park entrance!
Walk up the gorge from the exit to the famous Iron Gates (Sideroportes), or as far as you like. Take photos and enjoy Crete's natural beauty. Then relax with a swim in the Libyan Sea and a traditional Cretan meal in one of the charming tavernas in Agia Roumeli.
Approximate schedule
- Departure from Chania
- Arrival at the Omalos plateau (optional breakfast)
- Arrival at Xyloskalo (main entrance to the gorge)
- Arrival in Sougia (boarding the ferry)
- Arrival in Agia Roumeli. Walk up the gorge (as far as you like)
- Departure from Agia Roumeli
- Arrival in Sougia and coach back to Chania
- Return to Chania

General information
We'll pick you up from your hotel or a nearby meeting point. After about 1.5 hours' drive through beautiful scenery we reach the Omalos plateau (where you'll see the National Park entrance), then continue to Sougia. From there we take a boat along the coast to the village of Agia Roumeli.
In the village you'll have plenty of time to walk Samaria “in reverse” – from the exit up to the Iron Gates. It's one of the most spectacular points of the gorge, about 4.5 km from Agia Roumeli (3 km to the park gate + 1.5 km to the Gates). In the late afternoon we take the ferry back to Sougia, where our coach will be waiting.

The entrance ticket and ferry ticket are NOT included and must be paid in cash on the coach.

On Mondays, pick-up from Kalyves and Almyrida is available for an extra €6 per person.
